In previous posts, we mentioned the recent trend of multitasking technologies. Recently, during my travels throughout the worldwide web, I stumbled upon yet more proof that the future entails single gadgets, performing any task imaginable.
Video’s, mp3, photo’s – once great benefits and avenues of differentiation, have now become shared, common attributes without which a device would instantly drown in the rushing current of today’s electronics innovation. People are tired of filling their pockets, or purses; phone in one pocket, an mp3 in another perhaps sharing space with a camera, keys jingling around in a third and, if you are like me, let’s not forget that brick of a wallet. Even though you can’t use it to store your money, expired receipts, and mangled business cards (not just yet, but I’m sure we’ll see an iWallet sometime soon), Apple’s iPhone is an undisputed leader in the “Smartphone” field – sorry for the obvious statement.
The iPhone can do it all and now can detect colors as well thanks to a new application named aidColors, developed by Tilenus Consultores. “aidColors…allows visually impaired to identify the color of things” - http://www.tilenusconsultores.com/web/en/aidcolorsItunes.html
Using the phone’s camera, the application can tell colors. What a great idea and a great tool for people who are visually impaired. I would try the application myself, but unfortunately my pockets are still full of keys, an mp3 player, a brick of a wallet, and of course my “free with 2 year contract,” “after mail-in rebate,” “special offer” cell phone that can only make and receive calls. Someday though I will save up….perhaps by when the iWallet hits the shelves.
